Illinois man charged in fatal 'hill-jumping' accident

An Illinois man was recently charged with five counts of aggravated driving under the influence and one count of reckless homicide. He was allegedly drunk behind the wheel in a November auto accident that killed five people in the vehicle with him while they were reportedly hill-jumping. The practice involves driving over hilly rural roads at high speed with the aim of becoming airborne after cresting the top. The man reportedly lost control of his Chevrolet Trailblazer, sending it flipping over multiple times.

Porsche announces two recalls

Illinois residents who own new Porsches may be interested in the car maker's recent recall announcement. According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, Porsche is recalling 288 vehicles via two separate recalls. The announcement did not state whether either issue had led to a car accident; however, the NHTSA's statement did suggest that one issue is capable of causing an accident.

I-55 rear-end crash kills two children and one adult

According to a news report, two young children and one adult were recently killed in an Illinois auto accident. The crash occurred on Oct. 25 at about 5:30 a.m. on Interstate 55 in the vicinity of mile marker 50 near Litchfield. According to the Illinois State Police, a 2002 Chevy Impala carrying two adults and four children was struck from behind after the car is believed to have either slowed or stopped on the roadway.

Fatal west suburban crash occurs in Chicago

A two-car crash occurred in Virgil Township, a west suburban area of Chicago, shortly after noon on Sunday, Oct. 27. A 23-year-old woman who had been driving a 2012 Ford Focus crossed over the center line and hit a 2007 BMW SUV that was traveling in the opposite direction.

Fatal car accident near Colfax

A woman from Normal died in a truck-car accident by Colfax on the afternoon of Oct. 8. The victim of the fatal car accident was 63-years-old at the time of her death.

More charges authorized against teen in fatal crash

More charges have been authorized in the case of an 18-year-old man who was speeding when he lost control of his vehicle and hit another vehicle, killing a 65-year-old woman. The car that the teen was driving had been stolen three days before the accident. Initially, the teen was only charged with speeding and a DUI. After further investigation, he was additionally charged with aggravated driving under the influence of drugs involving death, aggravated driving under the influence of drugs involving great bodily harm, aggravated reckless driving and reckless homicide. The woman's husband was critically injured in the car accident as well.

Illinois rollover car accident kills 4 on way to temporary job

The Illinois woman who was behind the wheel in a rollover crash that killed four people was charged with multiple counts stemming from the incident. The deadly car accident occurred near the intersection of Interstate 290 and Route 83 in Addison. Police said that eight people were inside the silver Ford Explorer on their way to a temporary work assignment when something happened to make the vehicle crash roll over and crash into a ditch.

Drowsy driving is a growing factor in Illinois accidents

The case of a woman trapped inside her car for hours until daylight arrived after she fell asleep at the wheel and drove into a ditch highlights a problem that Illinois drivers frequently experience. Driving drowsy, even if only for a moment or two, can result in serious or even fatal auto accidents. The woman thought that she was not tired enough to pull over to the side of the road and sleep. Instead, she ended up nodding off, causing her car to roll violently into an area where motorists where unable to see the twisted wreck until daylight while she clung to life inside.

Alcohol-related charges pending in fatal Illinois crash

Police say that alcohol may have been a factor in a deadly wrong-way collision on an Illinois expressway shortly before 2:00 a.m. on Sept. 7. Two women were killed and a third was injured when the car they were riding in was struck head on by a red Dodge minivan. The woman who survived the auto accident was able to provide details about the moments leading up to the collision to authorities.
