According to authorities, a 22-year-old woman was killed in a Dec. 14 head-on collision that occurred in Jefferson County on Route 15 at Drivers Lane near Woodlawn, Illinois. The accident took place when a car heading westbound was struck by another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction that crossed the center line. The deceased was a passenger in the westbound vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.
Law enforcement authorities reported that a head-on collision claimed the life of a Dahlgren man on Nov. 4. The accident reportedly happened on Illinois Route 142 near the Hamilton/Jefferson County line around 5:10 p.m.
Around 4:30 p.m. on Oct. 5, a fatal accident occurred in Oak Lawn. Police reported that an 81-year-old man was speeding in a westbound pickup truck when he ran through a red light. He then allegedly jumped into the eastbound traffic and collided with 10 vehicles. The pickup truck driver and two nuns died in the crash.
One person was killed and three others were injured from a motor vehicle accident that occurred in Illinois on June 16. The multi-vehicle crash happened shortly after 3 p.m. nearby mile marker 112 on Interstate 39. According to state police, a 55-year-old trucker caused the chain-reaction accident due to his failure to reduce his speed. He was traveling south on I-39 when his semi-truck rear-ended an SUV. The impact of that crash pushed the SUV into a ditch.
An Illinois bicyclist died in a hit-and-run accident on May 29 when a van struck her and then drove away. Police filed several charges against the driver of the van for the accident including a felony count of leaving the scene of an auto accident resulting in injury or death, a misdemeanor count of failing to give information or render aid and a traffic citation for failure to reduce speed. Police held him on $200,000 bond after a bond hearing on May 31.
One person is dead and another injured as the result of an auto accident that occurred May 5 in Edwardsville. Police have identified one of the victims as a 50-year-old woman who died at the scene. A 23-year-old man suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital. Two other people were involved in the crash, including a juvenile, but they were not injured.
A pedestrian accident involving a hit-and-run driver that occurred in Chicago's West Town neighborhood on March 22 left a 33-year-old man dead. An autopsy that was conducted on the man on March 23 determined that his death was directly caused by the collision. The man was reportedly attempting to cross North Aberdeen before 5 p.m. when he was struck. He was immediately transported to John H. Stroger Jr. Hospital of Cook County where he was pronounced dead at 5:18 p.m.
On the morning of Feb. 14, an Illinois Department of Transportation snowplow driver lost his life in a work-related accident on Route 17 in Stark County. The driver, who was out clearing the roadway and battling the elements, pulled the plow over to assist an immobilized driver on the side of the road. Witnesses say another driver lost control of their vehicle and hit the 49-year-old IDOT employee. He died from his injuries a short while later after being transported to Kewanee Hospital.
Illinois owners of the Range Rover SUV from Land Rover may have heard that the automaker was recalling some of its vehicles because of a possible malfunction of its airbags. The problem was reportedly that connectors on 3,912 Range Rovers may come loose, which would keep the side airbags from inflating correctly in an auto accident. The recall concerned only those SUVs from the 2013 and 2014 model years.
A woman from Normal died in a truck-car accident by Colfax on the afternoon of Oct. 8. The victim of the fatal car accident was 63-years-old at the time of her death.
