Illegal street racing has become more frequent in Illinois and around the country. Fatalities and injuries from racing on highways and other public streets have risen in recent years. Being caught just watching an illegal street race can be considered aiding and abetting this dangerous activity. There are tracks dedicated to legal car racing. These are a much safer alternative to the dangers and stiff penalties for illegal racing.
On Feb. 8, three people were injured when a car smashed into a home in South Elgin. The accident happened around 2:30 a.m., according to authorities.
Law enforcement authorities reported that a head-on collision claimed the life of a Dahlgren man on Nov. 4. The accident reportedly happened on Illinois Route 142 near the Hamilton/Jefferson County line around 5:10 p.m.
An accident involving a passenger bus in Chicago at around 6:35 a.m. on Aug. 29 left 13 people with various injuries. This included 12 bus passengers and an off-duty firefighter who was participating in the rescue effort when he was injured. One person is dead and another injured as the result of an auto accident that occurred May 5 in Edwardsville. Police have identified one of the victims as a 50-year-old woman who died at the scene. A 23-year-old man suffered non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to an area hospital. Two other people were involved in the crash, including a juvenile, but they were not injured.
Illinois drivers may wish to know about a recall of certain luxury vehicles due to a flaw in the accelerator pedal. This is the second time that the cars are being recalled for the same issue. The first time, English car manufacturer Aston Martin was unaware of the magnitude of the problem.
Illinois owners of the Range Rover SUV from Land Rover may have heard that the automaker was recalling some of its vehicles because of a possible malfunction of its airbags. The problem was reportedly that connectors on 3,912 Range Rovers may come loose, which would keep the side airbags from inflating correctly in an auto accident. The recall concerned only those SUVs from the 2013 and 2014 model years.
Honda has announced that it is recalling over 340,000 vehicles. The recall is due to a problem involving the brakes that could potentially lead to more auto accident cases on Illinois roadways and other areas.
A two-car crash occurred in Virgil Township, a west suburban area of Chicago, shortly after noon on Sunday, Oct. 27. A 23-year-old woman who had been driving a 2012 Ford Focus crossed over the center line and hit a 2007 BMW SUV that was traveling in the opposite direction.
A woman from Normal died in a truck-car accident by Colfax on the afternoon of Oct. 8. The victim of the fatal car accident was 63-years-old at the time of her death.
