Is rushing taking lives?

In modern American culture, we often feel like we have to rush constantly. We rush in school to get a paper done on time. We rush at work to meet a deadline for a project. We rush through the store because we need to get home to our families.

Rushing is certainly stressful, and it can have a negative impact on your life as a result. But is it actually taking lives?

It very well may be. When people rush on the road, they break the speed limit. They drive aggressively. They have less patience and are more likely to succumb to road rage. All they think about is where they need to be and when. They feel like they're already late and it leads to poor judgment calls.

Speeding isn't a minor issue. Per the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), it led to 9,717 deaths in auto accidents in 2017. That's nearly 10,000 people who died because they or someone else just could not or would not slow down. That number represents a full 26 percent of the traffic deaths in 2017, meaning more than a quarter of these deaths could easily have been prevented.

It may be time to reconsider how we use our time and how willing we are to rush everywhere that we go. No one rushing to the store or to work ever thought it was worth it after causing a deadly crash.

If a speeding driver hits you and puts you in the hospital, you may need to consider your legal options to seek compensation for medical bills and other costs.
