Fatal crash in Schaumburg caused by driver believed to be high

A fatal crash recently in Schaumburg was reportedly caused by a high driver. The accident, which happened this month and involved three vehicles, took the life of a 41-year-old man. In a statement, the Schaumburg Police announced the arrest of a 25-year-old man in connection with the crash.

The suspect arrested in connection to the crash has been charged with aggravated DUI that caused death. The man's bail was set at $1.25 million. He is being held in Cook County Jail.

The accident occurred Aug. 15 on Schaumburg Road. The driver was behind the wheel of a 2009 Mercedes traveling west on the road. He slammed into a Mazda minivan from the rear. The van was sent into a tree, and his car then hit a 2015 Acura.

The driver of the minivan was trapped in the vehicle, and firefighters needed to extricate him from the van. The driver of the van was pronounced dead at Alexian Brothers Medical Center not long after arriving.

Police have said that speed and drugs played major roles in the crash. Officers said that the man who was arrested was smoking marijuana prior to the crash at a friend's home. If convicted, he could face up to 14 years in prison.
