An uncontrolled car is a lethal device, and a driver who is so intoxicated that they cannot properly control their vehicle is a threat to everyone around them.

Despite truck accident fatalities rising over the past four years, the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board says that over 100 of its recommendations have been ignored. In 2015, the agency says that it will place a priority on modifying the number of hours that drivers work and putting anti-collision technology in trucks. It also says that it wants tighter regulations on companies with high accident rates.

Illinois workers may have heard that a chemical corporation was cited for 17 health and safety violations by OSHA after one employee was killed and two others were injured. In 2012, the company also received 19 citations after an OSHA inspection. The director of an OSHA regional office described the repeated violations as displaying a lack of commitment to employee health and safety. The employee died after his respiratory system was burned from hazardous chemical vapors released by a reactor that was over pressurized.
