Illinois drivers should be aware of the risks associated with driving while drunk or otherwise impaired. Recreational and pharmaceutical substances may hinder the ability to drive so severely that the impaired driver becomes dangerous to themselves and anyone else on the road. An uncontrolled car is a lethal device, and a driver who is so intoxicated that they cannot properly control their vehicle is a threat to everyone around them.
Making truck safety a higher priority in Illinois
Despite truck accident fatalities rising over the past four years, the U.S. National Transportation Safety Board says that over 100 of its recommendations have been ignored. In 2015, the agency says that it will place a priority on modifying the number of hours that drivers work and putting anti-collision technology in trucks. It also says that it wants tighter regulations on companies with high accident rates.
One killed, two injured at chemical plant
Illinois workers may have heard that a chemical corporation was cited for 17 health and safety violations by OSHA after one employee was killed and two others were injured. In 2012, the company also received 19 citations after an OSHA inspection. The director of an OSHA regional office described the repeated violations as displaying a lack of commitment to employee health and safety. The employee died after his respiratory system was burned from hazardous chemical vapors released by a reactor that was over pressurized.
Man suffers mortal injuries in head-on collision
On Jan. 3, two vehicles traveling in contrary directions were involved in a fatal accident shortly after 6 a.m., according to the Illinois State Police. The incident reportedly transpired at the Vienna intersection of Locust Street and U.S. route 45.
Massive wreck in Illinois involves 11 vehicles, 3 killed
An Illinois driver who allegedly ran through a red light started a multi-vehicle accident in Oak Lawn on Oct. 5, and recent toxicology testing has revealed that the 81-year-old Illinois man was intoxicated when the fatal crash occurred. Three individuals died in the accident that occurred at the intersection of Cicero Avenue and 95th Street around 4:17 p.m.
